IP Rated Strip Lighting

IP65 and IP68 are two types of Ingress Protection (IP) ratings that are commonly used to indicate the level of protection offered by LED strip lighting against dust, water, and other elements. Here is a comparison of IP65 and IP68 ratings for LED strip lighting:

  1. Protection against dust and debris: Both IP65 and IP68 ratings provide a high level of protection against dust and other small particles. However, IP68 is generally considered to be more effective in preventing the ingress of dust and debris because it offers a higher level of sealing.
  2. Protection against water: IP65 rated LED strip lighting is protected against water spray from any direction. This means it can be used in outdoor applications where it may be exposed to rain or other types of water spray. IP68 rated LED strip lighting provides an even higher level of protection against water and can be submerged in water up to a certain depth, making it suitable for use in swimming pools or fountains.
  3. Durability: Both IP65 and IP68 rated LED strip lighting are durable and long-lasting. However, IP68 rated lighting is typically more robust and resistant to impacts and other forms of physical damage.
  4. Installation: Both types of LED strip lighting are easy to install and can be cut to the desired length. However, the installation of IP68 rated LED strip lighting can be more complicated because it requires additional waterproof connectors and cable glands to ensure a watertight seal.
  5. Cost: IP68 rated LED strip lighting is typically more expensive than IP65 rated lighting because it offers a higher level of protection and durability.

In summary, IP65 rated LED strip lighting is suitable for most outdoor applications where it may be exposed to water spray, while IP68 rated lighting is ideal for use in water bodies and areas where the lighting may be completely submerged in water. Both options are durable and long-lasting, but IP68 rated lighting offers a higher level of protection and is more expensive. The choice between IP65 and IP68 ratings ultimately depends on the specific needs and requirements of the lighting application.

All Visionary strip lighting products have a minimum IP65 rating which makes these products suitable for use in damp environments. We additionally offer an optional IP68 rated configuration in all Visionary Flex Pro ranges for applications requiring extremely high IP ratings.

Please note: There is a lead time of 12-16 weeks for IP68 strip lighting and we do not stock IP68 strip.
