IC-F | IC-4 Ratings for Recessed Luminaires
In 2021, Standards New Zealand released a New Zealand-only amendment (AS/NZS 60598.2.2:2001 AA) to luminaire safety standards and introduced a new class of recessed luminaires that do not operate unsafely in buildings where thermal insulation is installed or may be installed at a later time. The amendment prohibits the use of non-classified recessed luminaires in residential installations.
The standard applies to recessed luminaires and their associated drivers/control gear.
The ratings are defined as follows;
Rating | Description |
IC-F | A closed luminaire that allows building insulation to come into contact with its sides and to cover it and has resistance to heat, fire and tracking. Building insulation that can safely be continuously exposed to 90°C allowed to abut and cover the luminaire. |
